Behind the Scenes at the Harbor Seals Exhibit
We keep careful records about eating habits, behavior and more for each seal.
The Aquarium’s harbor seals eat between 6 and 12 pounds of fish and squid every day, for a total of between 2,000 and 6,000 calories!
Seals are very curious and love to play. The fishicles shown in the photo below are a particular favorite. The trainers freeze chunks of fish and squid inside cubes of ice, and the seals eagerly destroy the ice to get at the tasty treats inside.

Aquarium visitors can interact with the harbor seals through the outdoor exhibit, the Aquarium’s Play with the Harbor Seals program and the more in-depth Trainer for an Afternoon program.
