V-shaped Blow

NOAA Fisheries Service/ Permit No. 775-1600
Like all mysticetes (whales with baleen instead of teeth), right whales have two blowholes. Unlike other mysticetes however, right whale blowholes are angled in such a way that when the whale exhales, the blow forms a V shape.
Other things that distinguish right whales include
- No dorsal fin - Unlike most whales, right whales have no fin on their broad, flat back.
- Callosities on their heads
- Distinctive tail
