You can now also access an interactive version of the Matrix of Techniques for Reducing Wildlife Bycatch.
The Matrix itself is a spreadsheet that contains information on techniques either in use or under consideration for reducing non-target species bycatch in fishing operations. It was produced as a resource for scientists, fishers, and fishery managers interested in pursuing greater scientific evaluation of bycatch reduction gear, for facilitating exchanges of experience across regions and fisheries, and for considering the impact of gear modifications across multiple groups of wildlife and ecosystems.
The interactive PDF of the Matrix (pdf, 1.46kb) is linked into a database of article citations and notes on bycatch reduction techniques for various wildlife groups and fishing methods. To use it, click on a linked grid square. The link calls up a list of citations and notes for that point in the Matrix. The PDF also contains more detailed introductory and explanatory information.
