The New Aquarium is committed to providing interactive and informative programming for students in homeschool programs. We offer a variety of learning opportunities, both at Central Wharf in Boston and in the field.

2014 Field Experience: Quincy Salt Marsh and Wollaston Beach (ages 5–13) — CANCELLED

Meet Aquarium Educators at Caddy Memorial Park in Quincy to explore the Quincy Salt Marsh and Wollaston Beach. Students will get a chance to get their feet and hands wet, utilize science tools in the field, and explore alongside Aquarium educators in these two different habitats.

The program will start and end at the field site and participants will be provided with a suggested list of items to bring and directions. The program will be held rain or shine, unless there is severe weather forecasted in which case the event will be rescheduled.

Homeschool Ocean Series classes (ages 5 – 13)

Homeschool Ocean Series classes are designed to be both interactive and informative. Each week classes will include a mix of activities, lecture, project work and exploring the Main Building of the Aquarium. Extension activities will be given between classes to deepen the lessons taught in class. Each class will be tailored to the age range and appropriately challenging. All series will have 6 sessions and are offered on an every other week schedule. Please note that the only date where we can offer concurrent sessions for multiple age groups is Fridays. Classes will be grouped by the following ages: 5 – 7 years, 8 – 10 years, and 11 – 13 years.

Pricing

$90 per student for the series. This price includes at home extension activities that will help to deepen the learning experience, and will be appropriate for each age group.

Aquarium admission is not included in the class and not necessary during the class. Aquarium membership is encouraged so families can visit the Aquarium outside of class hours. There is no price discount for members or for enrolling multiple students, a $2 service fee will be added to non-member reservations.

Classes are held in the Aquarium’s Ocean Center, which is across the plaza from the Main Aquarium Building.
A minimum of 10 children participants will be required to run a series; please tell your friends to sign up!

 

Fall 2014—Get Local: Learning about Local Coastal Habitats
Massachustts has several coastal habitats, each with distinct features and species. In this series students will learn more about our three different coastal habitats and how organisms interact with their habitat and each other.

Fridays: September 5, 19, October 17, 31, November 14, December 5

10 a.m. – 12 p.m. — Students ages 5–7 years old and 8–10 years old
1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. — Students ages 5–7 years old and 11–13 years old

Fridays: September 12, October 3, 24, November 7, 21, December 12

10 a.m. – 12 p.m. — Students ages 8–10 years old and 11–13 years old
