On the Waterfront: Integrating Science Standards Through Classroom and Field Investigations

For Teachers Grades 3 – 8
- Dates: July 27th- August 1, 2009
Call-back dates Fall 2009 - Times: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- Location: New England Aquarium and field sites along Boston Harbor
- Credit:PDPs or optional 3 graduate science credits available from Cambridge College
- Cost: $250 without graduate credit and $400 with graduate credit
Course Description:
Join the team at the New England Aquarium for an intensive, 6-day workshop offering content background in ocean science and hands-on practice in inquiry-based activities adhering to state curriculum frameworks to take back to the classroom. In addition, special emphasis will be placed on linking science and literacy through inquiry and scientific investigations.
Connect science and literacy by:
- Exploring marine biodiversity, classification, habitats and adaptation
- Investigating the physical and chemical properties of water and the role of carbon dioxide in the ocean
- Learning about research and conservation efforts at the New England Aquarium and in and around Boston Harbor
- Linking to science and literacy standards in the Massachusetts frameworks
- Applying inquiry skills and content knowledge through hands-on investigations
