The New England Aquarium Sustainable Seafood Program (SSP) seeks an intern to assist with the planning and implementation of the 2014 Blue Plate Special program, which will occur later this year. The Sustainable Seafood Program at the New England Aquarium works with Boston-area chefs to increase awareness of ocean-friendly seafood. One of the outreach initiatives is the Blue Plate Special, a 4 week promotion where restaurants feature a specific a sustainable seafood dish, labeled as the Blue Plate Special, in collaboration with the Aquarium. The Blue Plate Special is an opportunity for the Aquarium to partner with and promote local restaurants that are committed to sustainability. This intern’s duties will be focused primarily in communications, planning and event logistics for the 2014 Blue Plate Special, and will report to the SSP Outreach Coordinator, who works out of the New England Aquarium. The ideal candidate is a highly-motivated individual looking to expand their knowledge of outreach and engagement programs in a conservation setting.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-Work with the Outreach Coordinator on program details and logistics
-Assist Outreach Coordinator in promotion of the Blue Plate Special program and recruitment in the greater Boston culinary community for the 2014 program
- Serve as primary contact for chefs and restaurants
- Create and distribute informational materials for chefs and restaurants, as necessary
- Work with the Aquarium’s Communications and Marketing team to meet deadlines for website, social media and newsletter promotion of the 2014 Blue Plate Special
-Coordinator and execute tracking of key metrics associated with the project
- Performs other position–related duties as assigned
-Requires minimum of 3 years of completed undergraduate study, completion of undergraduate degree preferred
-Experience in event planning preferred
-Strong written and verbal communication skills-Knowledge of the restaurant/hospitality industry a plus
-Experience with basic Microsoft Office programs, social media sites, and other marketing platforms
-Attention to detail and logistics a must
