Time commitment: 8 Hours Per Week For At Least 6 Months (Weekdays Only)

The New England Aquarium has been researching right whales for over 25 years and curates the north Atlantic right whale (NARW) catalog.  The NARW catalog is an extensive photo-id database of the north Atlantic right whale population. The database houses data from as early as 1935 and represents sightings from the US, Canada, Iceland and even Bermuda. The NARW catalog is routinely used by research scientists for studies involving right whale habitat use, temporal and spatial distribution, mortality, reproduction, health assessment and much more.

Responsibilities:  Entering, organizing and proofing of datasets. Analysis of data for current ongoing studies of right whale entanglement, scarring, mortality and health. Reviewing serious injury and mortality data points in relation to what is in our database.

Qualifications:  Applicant should be organized and motivated with the ability to work independently and maturely in a professional office environment. The applicant should have a basic knowledge of right whales (history, habitat etc.) and current issues.  Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Access a plus. Past experience working in the marine mammal field and photo ID is encouraged but not necessary.
