Time commitment: Eight week minimum, 10-16 hours per week (Monday-Friday)
The Development/Grantwriting Internship is an excellent opportunity for applicants who are interested in gaining experience in institutional fundraising in a nonprofit or museum setting. This internship focuses on grant-writing and fundraising through foundations and government agencies and teaches interns how a nonprofit raises revenue to support its mission.
The Development/Grantwriting team is seeking an independent, detail-oriented and organized person with strong writing and communication skills – someone eager to learn and contribute to our efforts.
·Work with the Foundation and Government Relations team to help prepare grant applications and reports, including editing and proofreading proposal narratives, reviewing budgets, and compiling other components of an application
·Help ensure that reporting requirements for funders are met
·Perform online research on funding prospects. Gather and compile statistical updates from program staff throughout the aquarium, as well as from blogs and informational pages on the aquarium’s website
·Update fundraising database (using Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge program) and other information-tracking documents
·Help organize files (both electronic and hard files)
·Support other subdivisions of Development with occasional projects (Membership, Individual Giving, Corporation Relations and Donor Relations)
·Various other office related tasks, as assigned
·As a special project, interested interns may independently write and receive feedback on a grant proposal to a funder
·Attend two professional development lunches with the Volunteer Programs and Internships office
·Must have an interest in learning about grant-writing
·Must have confidence interacting with staff at a variety of levels, as well as donors

·Must be an independent self-starter
·Must have strong writing and editing skills
·Must be highly attentive to detail
·Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs necessary

Departmental Description:The New England Aquarium’s Development Department manages gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations, as well as individual and corporate memberships, to support operations and programs throughout the aquarium.
