Responsibilities

The Curious George Discovery Corner is designed for family visitors with children from newborn to five.  Located in the main building of the Aquarium, the space offers a wide array of family-friendly activities that allows young children to practice their developing cognitive and motor skills by providing a safe and welcoming place for children to discover and explore.  Volunteers provide support for programming in the space and also will have the opportunity to develop new programming under the guidance of Aquarium staff.

Responsibilities:  Engage younger Aquarium visitors and their families with games, stories, activities and art projects.  Foster a sense of wonder for aquatic life using live animals and hands on biofacts.


Qualifications:  Experience with family learning, early childhood development and or/early elementary education.  Enthusiasm for learning about aquatic life and sharing the aquatic world with visitors. 


Note:  Successful completion of a training class required.  Training classes are available free of charge to volunteers. You must attend all training sessions in order to complete the course and begin volunteering.

All classes will be held at the New England Aquarium. The exact meeting place and any changes to class dates and times will be confirmed with accepted participants.

Winter Session (apply by December 15th, 2009): January 19th, 26th, February 2nd, 9th (all Tuesday evenings, 6pm - 9pm)

Spring Session (apply by March 24th, 2010): April 28th, May 5th, 12th, 19th (all Wednesday evenings, 6pm - 9pm)

Fall Session (apply by September 1st, 2010): October 6th, 13th, 20st, 27th (all Wednesday evenings, 6-9pm)
