How much time should I plan for visiting the Aquarium?
Our visitor surveys indicate an average time of about 2 hours, not counting an IMAX presentation or Whale Watch. IMAX films run roughly 35-45 minutes and Whale Watch tours run 3-4 hours.
Can I leave and return to the Aquarium?
Yes. You will receive a hand-stamp on entering the Aquarium that allows you to leave and return any time during the day of your visit.
Does the Aquarium rent wheelchairs?
The Aquarium offers complimentary manual wheelchairs for rent. You may pick the wheelchair up at the Aquarium's Information Desk. All that is required is a valid photo ID that you leave with us. When the wheelchair is returned you will receive your photo ID back. Find out more about wheelchair access here.
Does the Aquarium have handicap parking?
There are four handicap parking spaces available on East India Row (accessible from Atlantic Avenue). If the spaces are full, there are handicap spaces by all the elevator stations in the Harbor Garage, adjacent to the Aquarium. If convenient, you are welcome to use the drop-off space at the foot of the Aquarium plaza before parking. If you have an oversized vehicle you may want to consider parking in the open lot spaces near the Moakley Federal Courthouse along Northern Avenue (about a 10 minute walk to the Aquarium). Find out more about parking here (includes area map).
Are strollers allowed in the Aquarium?
While we do not rent strollers at the Aquarium, strollers are permitted in most areas (they are not allowed in the Jellies exhibit). We do offer a complimentary stroller check, located behind the main Information Desk. Find out more about stroller access here.
Does the Aquarium have storage lockers?
Storage lockers are available to the left of the glass doors leading into the Penguin Exhibit. Complimentary storage for large pieces that will not fit in the lockers is also available--please ask at the main Information Desk.
Can I bring my own food and drink?
Yes. Picnic tables are available on the Aquarium Plaza, weather permitting, and you can sit at the tables in the Harbor View Café on a space-available basis. Find out more about food options near the Aquarium here.
Is photography allowed?
Yes. Tripods and stands are forbidden as they can obstruct the exhibit paths, other than that, fire away! After your visit you can share your photos with others on the Aquarium's Facebook page: www.facebook.com/NewEnglandAquarium
Can I host a kids birthday part at the Aquarium?
The Aquarium offers some exciting birthday party options, including IMAX birthday parties, a self-guided group visit to see our animals and exhibits and On-the-Road birthday parties, which come to you. Find out more about Aquarium birthday parties here.
Does the Aquarium offer military discounts?
Active duty military personnel and their dependants receive 50 percent off Aquarium, IMAX and Whale Watch admissions. This discount does not apply to non-dependant guests coming with military personnel. Both active duty military personnel and their dependents need to show their military ID or military dependent card (orange) to receive the discount for themselves and their children. If the military personnel are not present, the spouse may show his or her military dependent card (orange) and a photo ID and get the discount for themselves and their children. Find out more about Aquarium discounts here.
