One year ago today, we publicly reaffirmed our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Today, we hold ourselves accountable by sharing some of the steps we have taken to create an actionable plan to advance our DEI goals, while acknowledging that we still have much work to do.
In addition to reviewing our internal policies and practices and deepening our understanding of what it means to be an organization that prioritizes diversity, equity, and inclusion, we have:
- Created an expanded staff DEI working group and established a Board of Trustees DEI committee;
- Created a required DEI learning series for all staff members and provided DEI training to our Trustees; and
- Increased the racial diversity of our senior leadership team and our Board.
Our ultimate goal as an organization is to achieve a vital and vibrant ocean FOR ALL. We look forward to another year of learning and growing, and hope that each of you will join us in this work.
