At the Aquarium
First Friday Facebook
Live: Schooling Fish
It’s time for another First Friday Facebook Live.
This time, in celebration of the start of a new school year, Taylor and Nick visited the 2,200 blueback herring on exhibit in the Temperate Gallery on Level 2 and discussed schooling fish. They talked about the different types of fish groups – aggregations, shoals, and schools – and why they school – predator avoidance, stress reduction, ease of communication, energy savings, etc.
The educators also spoke about the different schooling fish found at the Aquarium and some of the threats the fish face in the wild, such as overfishing and how we can make sustainable seafood choices when purchasing fish. Watch the video and learn more!
