Plastic Free July EcoChallenge
As we continue to strengthen our work as a global conservation organization, the New England Aquarium is sponsoring a Plastic Free July EcoChallenge and invites our community to join the challenge and reduce single-use plastic.
Ocean pollution is a major threat that needs to be addressed and this is just one effort we are participating in to eliminate plastic pollution from our environment.
Conservation Contest
According to the University of Georgia, 18 billion pounds of plastic waste flows into the ocean every year from coastal regions. And evidence shows that microplastics have been found in even the deepest trenches of our ocean. Recycling is important, but it simply isn’t keeping up with rising plastic pollution. We all need to consume less plastic to make a difference.
That is why it’s important to remember the order of the four Rs.
Refuse.
Reduce.
Reuse.
Recycle.
