Joining other cultural institutions across the country, the New England Aquarium is welcoming affected federal government employees and their families with free admission during the partial government shutdown.

Government employees with their federal government employee identification can bring up to three family members and be admitted free through Friday, February 1.

(UPDATED: Monday, Jan. 28. Free admission will stay in effect for the rest of this week until employees receive their first paycheck).

“The Aquarium works hand in hand with the federal government to achieve our shared goals of promoting a sustainable future for the ocean. Because of the close relationships we have with many federal employees, we recognize the hardships and uncertainties they and their families face during this prolonged shutdown,” said Vikki Spruill, the Aquarium’s President and CEO. “In our own small way, we honor the contributions of our federal workforce by inviting them and their families to enjoy some respite and time together at the Aquarium.”

Visitors are reminded that the Aquarium is easily accessible by public transportation with the Blue, Red, Orange and Green Lines all within walking distance.
