Our afternoon started off on a high note with a quick drive-by of two harbor porpoise right off Long Wharf. We then made our way back out to Stellwagen Bank’s northwest corner and found two fast-moving minke whales. It’s rather uncommon to get such great looks of minkes, so we were delighted as one swam just yards off our starboard side.

After some time, we moved on to a larger blow of a humpback whale nearby. This turned out to be Pleats, who is instantly recognizable due to a large propeller scar down her back. This sighting quickly became the highlight of the trip as Pleats began to spyhop close to the boat!

Our trip ended with a quick sighting of a harbor seal: our fourth marine mammal species of the day!
