Internships at the Aquarium offer college students, recent college graduates and career changers experience in areas ranging from veterinary services and animal husbandry to communications and program and exhibit development.
Internships are available for the January term, spring, summer and fall. Spring, summer and fall internships are 12 weeks long (see individual position descriptions for specific requirements), while January term internships range between 4 and 6 weeks and require a minimum of 125 total hours. Not all positions are available year round, and the time commitment varies slightly depending on the department. Internships are UNPAID and we DO NOT provide housing assistance. Applying for an Internship
Candidates may apply for up to three positions in their cover letter for an internship cycle. To apply for an internship you must complete an online application; only complete applications will be considered. Select candidates will interview with the Volunteer Programs and Internships Office, which may lead to a second round interview with the department(s) applied to. Before applying, please review the application requirements and the individual position descriptions to ensure you can fulfill all requirements.

New England Aquarium interns gain hands-on experience and explore career options while networking with Aquarium professionals and their peers. Interns go behind-the-scenes and working closely with marine biologists and aquarists to care for animals.

Please complete the online application for the appropriate internship cycle. Candidates may apply for up to three positions with their application—the positions applied for must be included within their cover letter. If this information is not included the application may not be considered.
Candidates will be required to submit a cover letter, resume, references, an unofficial transcript, and letter of recommendation; please have these materials ready when you start your application.

The Decision Process
You will receive confirmation by email that your application has been received. Select candidates will be invited for interviews with representatives from the Volunteer Programs and Internships Office, followed by a second interview with the department(s) applied to. High School Internships
Internships offered by the Volunteer Programs and Internships Office are designed for applicants who are college-level and up. Students under age 18 living in Boston and Cambridge can apply to be a paid summer teen intern through our Teen Programs.
The Summer Teen Internship Program is a great opportunity for
teens to challenge themselves and learn useful skills while having fun and meeting new friends. The Aquarium offers paid and volunteer summer internships for Boston, Cambridge and suburban youth for one week of training and six weeks of work in July and August.
