About

Veta Wade is the founder and driving force behind Fish’N Fins Inc., a non-profit organization committed to advancing marine conservation in the Caribbean. Based in Happy Hill, Montserrat, Veta’s work focuses on empowering women and girls to play vital roles in revitalizing our planet’s ecosystems through community-driven initiatives. Over the past decade, she has dedicated herself to promoting sustainable practices through community-led conservation, in partnership with local fishers.

Veta also fosters collaboration among ocean states to enhance empowerment, capacity building, and climate resilience. Over the past 2 years at Fish’n Fins , she contributed to the co-design of “Maka Niu,” a low-cost deep-sea camera and environmental sensor developed in partnership with the Ocean Discovery League. Additionally, she initiated the Montserrat Marine Megafauna Project, which aims to identify the presence and diversity of megafauna around the island of Montserrat and establish baseline data to inform local marine management. The vision is to increase awareness and access to ocean depths between 0-300 meters, encouraging advocacy and equitable economic opportunities.
