About
Sonja Feinberg is an aerial observer with the Spatial Ecology, Mapping, and Assessment Program (EcoMap) at the Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life. She participates in surveys of wind energy development areas, Gulf of Maine basins, and the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument. She also supports data proofing and management.
Before joining the New England Aquarium, Sonja conducted fieldwork related to cetaceans, pinnipeds, and seabirds, working with scientific organizations in Antarctica, California, and Alaska. She earned an MS in Marine Mammal Science from the University of St Andrews in 2024, where her thesis investigated fine-scale site fidelity and reproductive success in northern elephant seals. Sonja is especially interested in long-term monitoring projects and the critical role they play in informing ecosystem management.
