BOSTON, MASS. (June 4, 2026) – The ocean produces half the oxygen we breathe and pumps nutrients to every corner of the globe, yet its capacity to recover from decades of harm remains one of science’s most compelling stories. That story is at the heart of Ocean Dreams, a new documentary narrated by actress Shailene Woodley, making its world premiere at the New England Aquarium’s Simons Theatre on Sunday, June 7.

The new film, made exclusively for IMAX and giant screens, takes viewers on a journey through the ocean’s most remarkable habitats and the stories unfolding within them. In Norway, orcas teach their young to hunt in ancient fjords. In Raja Ampat, Indonesia, home to the richest marine biodiversity on Earth, a groundbreaking project is saving endangered sharks with support from aquariums across America. Beneath the surface at Bikini Atoll, marine life that vanished after nuclear testing more than 50 years ago is flourishing once more. Ocean Dreams weaves together these stories of resilience to make the case that when given the chance, the ocean can heal.

The film debut coincides with World Ocean Day, celebrated at the Aquarium on June 7 with free activities along Boston’s waterfront. As part of the day’s programming, the Aquarium will host two free screenings of the film at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on a first-come first-served basis at Simons Theatre on June 7.

Beyond World Ocean Day, tickets and showtimes are available by visiting neaq.org or calling 617-973-5206.
