About
As Husbandry Manager, Rachel Moote oversees the Quarantine and Holding areas at the Animal Care Center in Quincy. Her team provides care for a diverse range of aquatic species during quarantine, medical treatment, and other periods of off-exhibit holding. Many of the animals that ultimately join exhibits at the Aquarium or depart to other institutions pass through the hands of Rachel and her team.
Before first joining the New England Aquarium as a Quarantine Aquarist in 2018, Rachel worked at the ABQ BioPark Aquarium. Her expertise includes quarantine, aquatic disease management, and life support system design. She collaborates across departments for the acquisition and care of new animals, helping to develop quarantine and husbandry protocols that prioritize animal welfare and support the long-term sustainability of the Aquarium’s collection.
