Sustainability at the New England Aquarium

Our sustainability efforts are one way the New England Aquarium showcases our commitment to a vital and vibrant ocean for future generations.

In 2025, staff from across the Aquarium developed the first New England Aquarium Sustainability Plan, charting our sustainability pathway for the next three years. Learn more about our progress by exploring the focus areas below.

Our Goals

  1. Cut our carbon footprint. Reach net-zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2050 and reduce Scope 3 emissions.
  2. Make sustainability central to our future. Establish sustainability as a priority or pillar in our 2028-2029 Strategic Plan.
  3. Prepare our campus for a changing climate. Put priority resilience strategies from our Campus Master Plan into action.
