Recently, BlueSwell—a comprehensive early-stage bluetech incubator program made possible through a partnership between the New England Aquarium and SeaAhead—gathered the members of its fourth cohort of companies for Demo Day. Demo Day allows for the startups to share their learnings after completing the 20-week program.

The five startups in Cohort IV—accompanied by keynote remarks from Emanuele Di Lorenzo, founder of Ocean Visions, and a fireside chat featuring Cohort I alumni company H2Ok Innovations—talked about the importance of investing in ocean-based solutions to address climate change, and how BlueSwell helped them focus their ideas, market messages, and product-market fit. The entrepreneurs discussed the need for continued innovation in ocean simulation tools, carbon removal technologies, and digital infrastructure for oceanographic research. The program also celebrated the collaboration between researchers and innovators to develop and execute these ocean-centered technologies.

BlueSwell takes a whole-ocean approach to fighting climate change and advancing the blue economy. The program focuses on bridging gaps between innovators, ocean experts, industries, and the venture community. BlueSwell leverages SeaAhead’s bluetech domain expertise, network, and experience in building companies, and the Aquarium’s long history of using science developed by the Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life to protect the ocean and marine animals to ultimately convert ocean-focused concepts into profitable, sustainable businesses.
